Just Do Something By Kevin DeYoung

You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but you can safely judge this book by it's subtitle. Well written with quick chapters, DeYoung debunks bad but common thinking about discerning God's will. This will be sure to challenge believers who grow up in culturally christian environments where these ideas propagate.

Chapter 3 identifies many of the challenges that prevent believers from discening God's will. I was encouraged to look past hang ups that I feel when making a decision; that I'm timid, always searching for perfect fulfillment in this life, or simply that my circumstances present me with too many choices. At the same time, the book comforted me by pointing out that part of my desire to make decisions well comes from a God given desire to please him.

DeYoung summerized it best when saying,
"God's will for your life and my life is simpler, harder, and easier than that. Simpler, because there are no secrets we must discover. Harder, because denying ourselves, living for others, and obeying God is more difficult thatn taking a new job and moving to Fargo. Easier, because as Augustine said, God commands what he wills and grants what He commands." (pg. 121)

intrigued by this book, esp. as we're in a season of some will-o'-God-seeking! thanks for pointing us in its direction, rooddog.
